On the Move... from the south to the north of Serengeti!
While the rainy season (also known as the low season), is typically a quiet time for some, for us, it’s a rather busy time of year as we embark on our very own migration. Just a few short weeks ago, we said goodbye to our last guests staying at Siringit Migration Camp in its Ndutu location, and began disassembling the entire camp, from top to bottom, the very next day.
Those who have stayed at our migration camp know how much careful detail is put into every inch of our camp, so one can only imagine the effort and hard work it must take to pack it all up, transport it over gravel roads more than 200km away, and set it all up again! It is most certainly a labour of love. Our hard working team has worked together each day, all with the same dream and goal in mind. One team, one dream! Of course, they are always sure to carve out time for fun. Whether it’s a match of football, volleyball, or a game of cards or chess. There has been no shortage of laughter or enjoyment along the way!

In total, we move 8 accommodation tents, 1 dining tent, 1 lounge tent, 1 kitchen tent, our entire collection of staff tents, and back of house. All carefully dismantled, packed in protective material, and placed on board one of the 12 trucks that it takes to complete the move. The moving journey follows the same path as the ever famous wildebeest migration, but perhaps with a little more difficulty, as this rainy season has been ‘generous’, to say the least. The heavy rains that have fallen daily have led to plenty of mud, making the dirt roads almost completely impassible in some areas.
After 4 busy weeks of packing up, and strategically navigating the muddy roads, our previous site in Ndutu has been left without a single trace of our camp ever being there. We have finally arrived at our destination, Kogatende, where the meticulous unpacking and rebuilding has begun. Over the next few weeks, the team will complete the final touches. Preparing the kitchen, stocking food and beverage, cleaning, polishing, and finally, our favourite part; welcoming you, our guests, and await the arrival of the first herds of migrating animals. As the season in Northern Serengeti unfolds, thousands of wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, and other animals who participate in the migration wander right through our camp as they graze on the nutritious green grasses that the rains have brought.

Throughout the night, an abundance of wildlife can be heard calling near by. Come morning, early risers embark on a game drive that will take them to the Mara River, in hopes to witness one of the most action packed wildlife spectacles our planet has to offer - a wildebeest river crossing. Infested with hungry crocodiles, the Mara River is an inevitable part of the migration cycle. The migration has no choice but to take their chances and complete the crossing in order to follow the rains across the boarder into Kenya. It is truly an event one must witness for themselves. Lucky for you, we make it easy experience the magic that is Kogatende, with our knowledgeable guides and perfectly located camp, which by the way, has been nominated for Tanzania’s Leading Tented Safari Camp 2023 in this year’s World Travel Awards.
